The Rise Of Video: 2019 Statistics

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

As Gary Vee said over 4 years ago, "The single most important strategy in content marketing today is video." Turns out he was right. Video has exploded in 2019.

The good news; you no longer need to watch from the sidelines. Video is easier and cheaper than ever before to make. Your smartphone or DSLR has incredible filmmaking capabilities and there's fantastic free editing software at your fingertips. It's imperative for any small business, organisation, brand or individual to capitalise on this opportunity.

So why has video exploded? Simply put – people love video.

Let's look at the stats:

  • The average user spends 88% more time on a website with video. (Forbes, 2018).

  • Video on social media generates 1200% more shares than text and image content combined. (G2 Crowd)

  • A website is 53 times more likely to reach the front page of Google if it includes video. (Insivia)

  • Videos are a consumers’ favorite type of content to see from a brand on social media. (Animoto, 2018)

  • 82% of businesses plan to spend more on video marketing in 2018. (Wyzowl, 2018)

  • Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to 10% when reading it in text. (Forbes, 2018)

  • 93% of marketers say they’ve landed a new customer thanks to a video on social media. (Animoto, 2018)

  • Social media posts with video have 48% more views. (HubSpot)

  • 85% of consumers want to see more video content from brands. (HubSpot)

These statistics demonstrate the unstoppable growth and potential of video in 2019. As such, it's imperative to have a steady stream of video content for your brand, business or organisation. Learning how to film and edit your own videos is a way to capitalise on this opportunity without paying a fortune for a videographer.

"No matter what you’re selling, no matter what your company does, if you don’t have a video marketing strategy for the biggest video platforms, you are going to lose"

To finish, an old client of mine recently shared something with me that he heard at a conference: video is the new keyboard.

It made me think for a moment, but it makes sense. We are moving away from communication via text and diving full force into the powerful medium that is video.

I couldn't finish the blog post without a video of course...
