I'm all about using minimal equipment to make videos.
But there's one piece of gear you'll always need – a microphone.
Bad audio will instantly ruin your video.
Thankfully, the latest gadgets make it incredibly easy to have fantastic, clear audio.
Previously I used to recommend the RODE Wireless GO. However, for $350+ they're slightly expensive and don't include the necessary adaptors to connect with your smartphone.
Additionally, each device needs to be charged separately. And although this doesn't sound like a huge deal, when you're a beginner, you want to eliminate as many of these failure points as possible.
Introducing... the Hollyland Lark M1 Wireless Microphones ($212)
We love these microphones because:
All-in-one charging case.
Fantastic sound quality.
Fool proof to use.
Affordable.
Comes with adapters for both smartphones or DSLRs.
Includes two microphones for two speakers.
The microphones are small and easy to hide.
They've been a massive hit at our 1 day videography workshops.
At the end of the day, my job is to get you making videos consistently. If the process is too difficult, you just won't do it. So I'm all about having the easiest possible equipment to use – that works well – and doesn't break the bank!
These microphones tick all of the boxes. They will elevate your video to a professional standard without requiring a huge investment. I'm a big fan.
