Video SEO for Business: Make Helpful Smartphone Videos People Can Find

“We made a good video. How do we help the right people find it?”
Video SEO starts before you press record. Choose a question your customers actually ask, answer it clearly and describe the finished video accurately. Your phone is enough to get started; the subject and the usefulness of the answer matter far more than a camera upgrade.
Search is also happening inside social platforms. HubSpot’s 2026 social media research highlights social search as part of how people discover brands. For teams attending our content creation workshops, that is a reason to make helpful, specific videos rather than chase every trend.

1. Start video SEO with one customer question
Write down the words customers use in enquiries, rather than the language in your internal documents. “How do I prepare for my first appointment?” tells you more about the video you need than “Our customer journey”.
Check the suggestions in the platform where you plan to publish, then look at existing results. What do they explain well? What useful detail is missing? YouTube Analytics research insights can help you explore audience searches. Suggestions are ideas to investigate, not proof of monthly search volume.
Choose questions that relate to your service and your expertise. Our social media video workshops can help your team turn that list into a practical filming plan.
2. Film the answer you promised
Open with the question or the useful result. Then explain or demonstrate the answer. If the title promises three preparation steps, show those steps instead of beginning with a long company introduction.
Use a microphone close to the speaker and keep the phone steady. Show the detail people need to see: the control being adjusted, the finished example or the difference between two options. Our smartphone videography workshops cover these filming basics, and our guide to smartphone interviews explains a simple interview setup.
3. Make the title and description specific
YouTube explains that search considers relevance, engagement and quality, including how the title, description and video content match a query. Adding a keyword to an unrelated video will not solve the underlying problem.
Use a title such as “How to prepare for your first studio recording” rather than “An exciting update from our team”. In the description, summarise the answer and link to the relevant service or next step. Add Sydney only when location helps the viewer, such as an on-site service, local example or workshop. Avoid repeating a string of cities and keywords.
4. Add accurate captions and a useful preview
Review automatic captions, especially names, technical terms and numbers. Keep on-screen text readable on a phone and clear of important faces or demonstrations. Captions help people follow the explanation when they cannot hear every word.
Choose a thumbnail or opening frame that matches the video. A clear view of the result is often more useful than a vague branded graphic. When you embed the video on your website, add a short written explanation around it so visitors can understand the topic and find the next step. Our one-day videography workshop covers turning footage into a finished, usable video.
5. Measure whether the video answered the question
Look beyond a large view count. Review search terms where the platform provides them, how long people watch, the questions in comments and the enquiries that follow. A video watched by a small number of suitable customers can be more useful than one shown to a broad, uninterested audience.
If viewers leave before the explanation, shorten the introduction or move the demonstration earlier. If comments reveal a missing step, film a follow-up. Search rankings vary, so treat each video as something to improve rather than a guaranteed first-page result.
